Social District Information for Participating Businesses

Any business with an active on-premise liquor licenses located within the Downtown Marquette Social District is eligible to participate, though not required.

How can my business participate?

Any business within the Downtown Marquette Social District (See map above, in blue) with an active on-premise liquor license can choose to opt into the Downtown Marquette Social District, and are now eligible to apply. In order to participate, complete the MLCC Social District permit application. Page 3 of the application, Local Governmental Unit Approval For Social District Permit, needs to be completed by the City of Marquette Clerk, located at 300 W. Baraga Ave.

What will my business need?

Participating businesses will need the following:

  • Active MLCC Social District license

  • Signage indicating they are a business that participates in the Downtown Marquette Social District

  • Information for patrons that lets them know the rules and responsibilities to participate in the Social District, as well as maps indicating where patrons can go within the Social District

  • Training for their staff that ensures they understand the rules around the Social District

  • Disposable cups, up to 16 oz in size, with two pieces of identifying information: the approved Downtown Marquette Social District sticker or logo and a 2” sticker or logo indicating it came from your particular business. We strongly recommend compostable or biodegradable options. Cups cannot be made of glass.

What will my business’s responsibilities be?

Businesses who are participating in the Downtown Marquette Social District will have all of the same responsibilities that any business who serves liquor does, with the addition of:

  • Only serving one drink at a time to the person making the order, and ensuring anyone ordering a Social District drink comes inside of your business to order.

  • Ensuring the beverage is served in the appropriate cup, with appropriate stickers (see question above)

  • Optional: placing a date and time stamp on the Social District drink to help ensure the cup is not being refilled

Beverage Containers

Beverage containers can be up to 16 oz in size and may not be made of glass. Compostable or biodegradable materials are strongly recommended. Below are links to optional resources to help you source cups.

Social District Stickers

Social District beverage containers must have two identifying pieces of information: a designated Social District sticker or logo and a 2” sticker or logo identifying the business the beverage came from.

  • Can be purchase from the Marquette DDA in quantities of 1,000. All fees will be used towards the maintenance of the Social District. ontact our office for purchasing options.

Stickers to Identify Your Business

Direct Print on Beverage Container Option

Participating businesses will also have the option of printing both their own logo and the Downtown Marquette Social District logo directly onto beverage containers for the Downtown Marquette Social District. Contact our office for purchasing options. Files will be available for a small yearly fee. All fees will be used towards the maintenance of the Social District.
