Washington Street is Getting a Facelift
Together with the City of Marquette, the DDA will be undertaking a streetscape improvement project on the 100 block of West Washington Street this spring. The deteriorated condition of the sidewalk and curbing has created a hazardous surface for pedestrians that must be addressed in order to maintain public safety, which is always a priority for us. The project will also improve ADA compliancy, resurface the roadway, and enhance the street’s visual aesthetics with stamped concrete and street trees.
Construction is expected to begin as early in May as possible, with the start date dependent upon weather conditions, road restrictions, and ground frost levels. Completion is anticipated by mid-June, in advance of the busy tourist season. Pedestrian access to Washington Street businesses will be maintained throughout the duration of the project, though traffic shifts will be necessary and on-street parking temporarily unavailable. It is our goal to minimize disruption to business operations and create a safer, more accessible Washington Street for all to enjoy. Additional details will be shared as the project draws nearer. Funding for the project is provided by the City of Marquette and the Marquette Downtown Development Authority.
