Power of Words Project Mural Unveiling Ceremony

Please join the Marquette Arts and Culture Center, the Marquette DDA, and the artists for the unveiling of the new Power of Words Project Mural, Wednesday, August 25, 2021, at 5 p.m., located at 601 N. Third Street, Marquette. The unveiling includes a brief ceremony followed by a community reception. Celebrate and meet the artists who painted this incredible mural and enjoy refreshments, appetizers and live music on this very special occasion.

The Power of Words Project (POWP) is a humanitarian mural campaign that brings the Power of Words to life with transformative works of public art. POWP Creator, Project Manager, and Lead Artist, Mia Tavonatti, collaborates with schools, local arts organizations, municipalities, and downtown development authorities to make inspirational murals. Each participating community is asked to elect one word that describes their vision for their future. The word Natural was nominated and overwhelmingly selected by the community.

Funding for Natural was made possible by matching funds from the MEDC Patronicity Grant and generous crowd funding campaign contributions from Marquette City residents, local businesses, the Svelata Foundation, regional, national, and international art supporters. In addition, in-kind support was provided by several local businesses and restauranteurs. Tavonatti is an Iron Mountain Native with strong ties to Marquette. Based in Southern California, POWP hired four local artists and several community members to work alongside the POWP Team, including artist Tara Tavonatti. This is the tenth Power of Words Project in the Upper Peninsula.
