February is a busy time in Downtown Marquette. The 30th running of the UP200 and Midnight Run will take place on Friday, February 14 on Washington St. in Downtown Marquette. Visitors to downtown should expect detours and road closures starting as early as the evening of Thursday, February 13, lasting through the morning of Saturday, February 15. These closures are to accommodate the bringing in and removal of snow for the sled dog races, along with staging of mushers and their teams prior to the race.
On Saturday, February 15, the Polar Roll will return to Downtown Marquette for a 30 mile fat bike race start that will make its way to Ishpeming, Michigan. Set up for the race will take place in the early morning hours of February 15, with an 8:00 a.m. start. Racers will head east on Washington St., turn south on Lakeshore Boulevard, merge onto the Iron Ore Heritage Trail, and head towards South Trails. Racers and race related activities are expected to be completely clear of Downtown Marquette by 9:00 a.m., with traffic patterns returning to normal at that point in time.

Thursday, February 13
10:30 p.m. – E. Washington Street from Front Street to Lakeshore Boulevard
Friday, February 14
7:00 a.m. – Washington Street from Front Street to Sixth Street.
9:00 a.m. – Fifth Street from Spring Street to Bluff Street (closed to through traffic).
9:00 a.m. – Fourth Street from Spring Street to Bluff Street (closed to through traffic).
1:00 p.m. – Lakeshore Boulevard from Mattson Park to Baraga Avenue (closed to through traffic)
5:00 p.m. – Lakeshore Boulevard from Baraga Avenue to U.S. 41 (closed to through traffic)
5:00 p.m. to 10:30 p.m. – The northbound lane of S. Lake Street from U.S. 41 to Hampton Street
5:15 p.m. – Front Street from Baraga Avenue to Bluff Street (closed to through traffic)
5:45 p.m. – Third Street from Spring Street to Bluff Street (closed to through traffic)
A detour route around the closure areas will use Baraga Avenue, Seventh Street, and Bluff Street.
The street closures will remain in effect until 2:00 a.m. Saturday, February 15 except for Washington Street between Third and Lakeshore, and Front Street between Bluff and Main (closed to through traffic) which will remain until 9:00 a.m. on Saturday, February 15 for the Polar Roll bike race.
