Marquette, MI- The Marquette Downtown Development Authority is pleased to announce the installation of a new 240-volt dual ChargePoint electric vehicle (EV) charging station. The location is the east end of the lower level of the Bluff Street parking ramp, located at 44 W. Bluff St., and is accessible from the Bluff Street Alleyway in Downtown Marquette. This single charging station offers two charging ports, giving two EVs the opportunity to charge at the same time. The cost to charge an EV is a flat rate of $1.00 plus $0.20 per kilowatt hour, and is available during the hours of 6:00 a.m. and 12:00 a.m. This charging station replaces an older, less reliable charging station that was no longer serviced by the company it was purchased from.
“We are very excited to bring updated electronic vehicle charging technology to Downtown Marquette and offer this service to our regular parking patrons and visitors to our area. Electrical vehicles are on the rise and we want to be able to attract owners of those vehicles to downtown,” stated Rebecca Salmon, Marquette Downtown Development Authority Assistant Director.
Those utilizing the ChargePoint charging station are still required to pay for parking at the pay station while charging their vehicles. A contactless ChargePoint card or ChargePoint mobile app is required for payment. More information on obtaining the card can be found at www.chargepoint.com. Once the vehicle has been fully charged, vehicle operators are asked to move their vehicle away from the charging station to allow others to utilize this service.
